So this is more for my journal than anything else..I need to write this down before I forget all the details. On Wed Feb 20 I went to my 36 week check up and was dilated to a 2 1/2. My doc thought I would prob have him within the week because of how thin my cervix was. I had a few false alarms that week but didn't go in. I made it to my next dr's appt on the 27 of Feb and was dilated to a 3 1/2 and my dr stripped my membranes. I then went home and took Bridger for a walk in the wagon and we walked up and down some hills to try and get the labor going and to try and break my water. I was having contractions that night about 4 min apart and they were strong enough that I had to practice my breathing through them. I told Tyler we needed to go to the hospital and when we were all ready to leave they stopped. completely. This happened the next few days off and on and I kept trying to exercise to get everything going (I was so done being pregnant!) On Friday March 1 my dr checked me and I was 90% effaced and dilated to a 4 1/2. We all thought it was going to be that night or the next day (dr included) so I was just waiting! Sunday comes and nothin... I was getting kinda paranoid because with Bridger I didn't know I was in labor and checked into the hospital dilated at a 6! I didn't want the same thing to happen and end up delivering in the car on our way so every little contraction I though "ok this is it" and then they would die down! We went to dinner at my moms house on Sunday and I brought my hospital bag just in case. My little sisters were timing my contractions and they got down to 3 min apart but I could still talk and walk through them so I wasn't sure if we should go in or not. This lasted about 2 hours and I decided to call the oncall dr and ask his advice. He recommended going down to the hospital. I had Tyler give me a priesthood blessing just in case and to make sure we were making the right decision. (We had to make sure I was really in labor because we were on the cash plan so if I had a false alarm and the hospital sent us home it would cost $1500!) So we decided it would be okay to go and went straight there. Once we got there it was about 5:30 and the nurses checked me and said I was dilated to a 4 1/2 and 80% effaced. I told her I was 90% on Friday and dilated that far Friday as well and she said that the nurses are a little bit more stingy than the dr's. They said they would monitor me for an hour and see if I progressed any before deciding to admit me. When she left the room I started bawling and had a huge breakdown because I was going to cost us 1500 bones that we didn't have! Tyler kept reassuring me everything was going to be ok and I called the oncall dr again just to talk to him and see what he recommended. He was at the hospital so he came in and talked to us and he called Dr. Layton (my doc) and dr layton told him that he needed to admit me because of how fast my labors are and asked him to break my water. Whew. Huge relief- we didn't get sent home! I got admitted and at 7:00 p.m. they broke my water. With Bridger my labor was so fast I didn't have time to think about getting an epidural and by the time I was going to die- it was too late. Tallen's was a little different. Still a fast labor but my contractions were harder and lasted longer. I also had some back labor and I thought I was going to die the whole time! I wanted to try and do it natural again (especially since we would have to pay $2000 out of pocket to get the meds). I used the Bradley method and it teaches you to just try and relax through your contractions (easier said than done but its a great method). Also relaxing through them will help speed up the process and the labor won't take as long. I had strong contractions for 2 hours and my nurse came and checked me at 9:00 p.m. and I was dilated to a 9. Good news! At least I was going somewhere and almost there and done! My contractions were getting so strong at this point and I seriously thought my life was ending! We had to wait for my dr to get there still and I felt I needed to push but my nurse kept telling me to not push and breathe through it. Hardest thing ever! Finally Dr. Layton got there and I didn't wait for him to get ready cause that baby was there and I was dying and had to get him out of me! One push and his head was out. I then had to not push because he had his arm up by his face and also the cord was around his neck. I kept saying I have to push, I have to push but everyone panicked and said don't push!! It is all kind of a blur but finally he was born at 9:30 p.m. and when they handed him to me he was blue and not breathing so they took him away and had to help him breathe for about a min and a half. It was the most terrifying minute of my life. Finally he started to cry! Dr. Layton said that the cord was so tight around his neck he only sees that about twice a year. It was scary but I am so grateful he is okay and healthy as can be!! Here are some pics of the whole process...
Trying to relax through contractions
Tyler is such good help and so sweet
I felt like I was dying and was so hot my little sisters, mom, and Tyler took turn fanning me
Ice chips in between a contraction to try and cool down
After all the scariness was over we could take some pics of him
Tyler showing me that he is okay and healthy ( I didnt get to see him yet)
Finally holding my baby boy!
Tallen Norman Thompson 7 lbs 13 oz 20 inches long
Bridger was sick so he didn't get to go to the hospital to meet him and this is him meeting him for the first time!
I made Bridger a big brother kit so he would feel special too!
So far Bridger loves his little brother! He has had a few rough moments but overall we are doing good and adjusting well to 2 babies! I love both these boys so much and know one day they will be best friends and I am so glad I get to raise these handsome little guys!!
